Cameron Frye, this one’s for you…

Posted on: Tuesday, Jan 31, 2012

No use clicking through to this commercial for Honda is you haven’t seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  The US Superbowl pulls the biggest TV audience of the year – so advertisers fork out up to $3.5million for a 30 second spot – and if you are going to part with that sort of cash, you [...]

Lorzy Update

Posted on: Tuesday, Jan 31, 2012

In less than 24 hours Laura will be on a plane pointed ‘home’ so this is the last ‘US’ update – this is Lisa Nilsson who is on exchange in Michigan from Sweden.  They went ice skating in Detroit on the weekend and plans are afoot for Lisa to head Down Under in the European [...]

Big Day Out!

Posted on: Monday, Jan 30, 2012

Went down to BrisVegas yesterday for a check up with my cardio and neurologist.  All seems to be  fine on the health front.  I dropped into CBD Restaurant at Rydges South Bank for a terrific tempura fish, fries & salad and a chin wag with Colin, the hotel’s Les Clefs d’Or concierge.  He’s not listening to music [...]

Another doggy post…

Posted on: Sunday, Jan 29, 2012

I have featured the work of fellow MSer, Eli, from Michigan before – I just love the way she can capture a dog’s personality – and this is a recent hobby (with no art classes!) that has now extended to commission work. Eli is a similar vintage to me, so it is never too late.  [...]

Way to go, Tillman…

Posted on: Saturday, Jan 28, 2012

This is the coolest dog! Tillman is an English bulldog who can skimboard, snowboard and skateboard. I used to skimboard a bit and I know from injuries that it is easy for things to go awry. Not so for Tillman it seems! Two and a half minutes of fun to Beach Boys Surfin’ USA.

Gotye…

Posted on: Saturday, Jan 28, 2012

Okay, old man trying to be cool gets a verbal upslap from the lad for calling Gotye “indie” when he is apparently “alternate”. Whatever. He is a damn fine muso and deserved #1 on the annual Triple J Hot 100. Here’s a link to the clip for Somebody That I Used to Know. BTW, I [...]

The Bodyguard

Posted on: Friday, Jan 27, 2012

It doesn’t take long for things to go viral – you may have already come across The Bodyguard (right)… And the ball boy who took the amazing catch off the ‘batting’ of Rafael Nadal last night in the Australian open tennis has made worldwide headlines, as well as You Tube viral with 417,000 views when I [...]

Decorah Eagles

Posted on: Friday, Jan 27, 2012

This is a live feed of a wild mating pair of bald eagles near Decorah, Iowa. The male (slightly smaller in size) and female both help in incubation of the eggs (should happen in Feb) and will also both provide food for the eaglets after they hatch (April?). The camera was set up and is [...]

Aussie Open

Posted on: Thursday, Jan 26, 2012

Following Raffa’s win over Roger Federer last night, the SMH’s Richard Hinds made an interesting point. Roger Federer is statistically the greatest tennis player of all time. So how come Nadal is just regarded as that Spaniard who turns up now and then and does okay? Nadal has won 18 matches and Federer just 9.  [...]

Australia Day

Posted on: Wednesday, Jan 25, 2012

The 2012 Australian of the Year is Toowoomba born lad, Geoffrey Rush.  While he is the country’s most awarded actor (and one of the few to snag the ‘triple’ – Tony, Emmy, Oscar), he got the gong for what he does behind the scenes – mentoring young actors, appearing in Aussie movies for next to nothing, [...]
